Chronicles of a Naturalista

The crispy cold air is a blowing, and my hair is a drying.

What to do, what to do!?

Great, fun protective style for the winter, or a little something to cover up a bad hair day!

What do y’all think? Did I nail it?

King Kendrick

Kendrick Lamar kept his throne mighty warm last night at the Oracle Arena, in Oakland, Ca. kendrick-lamar-2013

Kendrick Lamar is the opening act for Kanye West, according to the Yeezus tour. According to me, King Kendrick was the headliner last night in Oakland.

Getting to the arena a tad bit late, I rushed over to my seat, to find the handsomely dressed K.Dot on stage. Wearing all black (from the hoody to the black Timberland boots), with a flannel vest to keep him in style, he had me on my feet for the full 45-minutes or so he was on stage. He takes the audience on a tour through C.O.M.P.T.O.N. with the video monitors going while he performs banger after banger off his debut album, good kid, m.A.A.d city.

Critics say Kendrick is a lackluster performer, but last night he was jumping jubilantly around the stage, and there was no way you couldn’t feel the energy pulsating through the whole arena. He even paid homage to 2Pac with a little “Hail Mary” chorus, representing Cali to the fullest. He even had something to say to the critics, “Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe”. The vibe was set, and everyone was chanting his name as he exited stage right.

“Kendrick, Kendrick, Kendrick.” We wanted more.

Chi-Town

From LA to The Bay & From Oak-Town to Chi-Town

chicago-fd-banner

It’s about that time to make a move … soon. After graduation (May 2014), I will be embarking on a new journey to Chicago. Every time I tell someone I want to move to Chicago, I get the same question: Why?

The neighborhood of Lakeview, in Chicago, is now one of the most fashionable places to live in Chicago. The fashion scene is up and coming, and I want to be there in the beginning. I want to get my foot in the door, and build my resume. Why not start there? I feel like it’s so cliché to move to New York, and I definitely DO NOT want to move back home to Los Angeles.

I am already looking at internships, places to live, and jobs. In the mean time, do you guys have any suggestions? Different places to live, fashionable places to work?

Let me know how y’all feel!

Too Little in Too Long.

I have been MIA, but I’ve truly been inspired lately. Here are two great things to watch:

Verses & Flow:

logoIf you are into spoken word, I mean jaw dropping, make you want to jump off the couch and clap, spoken word, this is the perfect treat for you. I love spoken word, I have been going to open mic’s since high school, so this is my Wednesday night must watch. They also have music artists performing, from Jill Scott, to Mary Mary, you can really get your soul on!

Check it out Wednesdays on TVOne. Or you can watch the current season plus past seasons on Luxury Awaits: Verses and Flow.

Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant ChildUnknown

Artist Jean-Michel Basquiat is the subject of this insightful documentary featuring a never-before-seen interview conducted beforehis untimely death. You don’t even have to know how this man is or be into art, to really appreciate this documentary. It is truly awing and inspiring.

If you have a Netflix account, that is all you need. Search for Jean-Michel Basquiat, and you will not be sorry you did.

Let me know how y’all enjoy these.
